Taco Bell Utrecht Leidsche Rijn
Last Thursday, January 11, 2024, Taco Bell's 10th restaurant in the Netherlands opened.
With this restaurant, a long-cherished wish to open in the Utrecht area has finally been realized. Taco Bell has been able to rent a beautiful location in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn Center at the cozy Brusselsplein 191.
The restaurant has a floor area of approximately 180m2 and with 24 seats it is a compact restaurant with a great view of the square where you can enjoy the delicious dishes.
The dishes can also be picked up or ordered via Uber Eats and Thuisbezorg.nl.
Given the crowds in the first days, it is clear that Taco Bell fans in Utrecht are enthusiastic.
Grid congestion solution
Due to increasing grid congestion for energy consumption, it is a challenge for many Fast service companies to find suitable locations where the required energy capacity can be obtained.
Taco Bell Utrecht Leidsche Rijn is the first Taco Bell worldwide to work with battery storage energy, which results in a much lower peak load on the energy grid. This solution is (almost) not yet used in fast service restaurants in the Netherlands.
With this solution we use batteries for peak shaving.
I.e. that the batteries charge when consumption in a building is low enough to charge the battery from the grid.
The battery is then discharged when the demand for energy is greater than the grid can supply. This allows peak times to be absorbed and energy to be taken from the grid during “off-peak” times so that the energy grid is not overloaded when consumers use the most energy. In addition, this sustainable solution has a double function.
By charging the battery from the grid during hours when energy prices are low and discharging the battery during hours when energy prices are high, the battery pays for itself more quickly.
Through good cooperation between TION installation technology and Indutecc Renewable Solutions, we have been able to realize the above-mentioned solution for this increasing challenge and specifically for this location. For the Taco Bell branch in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn, this innovation means savings on energy costs. In addition, we are (much) less dependent on the grid operator for finding new locations. We thus strengthen our ambitions to open new Taco Bell locations in the Netherlands
