GroeneWarmte: results of strategic repositioning are clearly visible

Recent geopolitical developments have accelerated a new realization that we no longer want to be dependent on Russian natural gas in our country. This realization means that the search for alternatives will accelerate. In addition, the need for more affordable and sustainable heat that is always available are strong drivers for making our energy systems more sustainable. GroeneWarmte already started its repositioning at the end of 2021 and was therefore able to immediately respond to the market demand for more sustainable heating systems and the linking of sustainable generation and the use of sustainably generated energy for heat. This repositioning translates into a number of concrete projects.

Overall progress:

  • Over the past 6 months, the team has implemented the changed strategy with the support of Rard Rijcken (including former Nuon, Vattenfall and Eteck).
  • This implementation is almost complete and has translated into 2 clear propositions with the support of the digital tools of GroeneWarmte Digital.
  • The simplification of the legal and organizational structure is almost complete.
  • Financially, a number of existing structures will be adjusted in the second half of the year to ensure that the company gains more financial strength.
  • First results become visible in a number of concrete assignments

Need realization strategy:
As a GW delegated developer, a project in development represents a different value than just the engineering costs. A contract for a GW GO project represents a development value of approximately EUR 600 – 900 x the number of housing equivalents (weq*), which are released in a certain period. Due to the “fixed fee per weq”, a project represents a serious turnover.

GroeneWarmte is open to interested parties who want to contribute to the realization of its strategy and there is currently room for an investment of at least EUR 250 - 500k.

* Home equivalent (weq) is a unit of heat demand used in the design of heating networks. A home equivalent is equal to 33 gigajoules per year (GJ/a), which is an estimate of the amount of heat energy required to provide an average Dutch home with space heating (27 GJ) and hot water (6 GJ).
